We came to the Frankfurt Book Fair with many hundreds of books. They made our promotion booth look gorgeous all week!

Well, together you and we must have done a good job.

We can hardly believe it: today, on the show's final day, at this hour most books are gone! Taken home by eager foreign publishers for further review!

One can never predict to what country any given book will appeal most, so we were especially thrilled to see a small army of Canadian foreign rights buyers descend upon our booth yesterday. It seemed as if they all had decided that Saturday would be PublishAmerica Day for Canada's publishers!

One Canadian after another came to ask about our children's picture books, works about health, nature, history, general fiction, books for ages 6-15, romance, fantasy & scifi.

They want details this week. Canada's publishers have demanded that we submit books to them, as many as we can, for publication/distribution in English and/or French.

Canada. Of course!

As the Frankfurt Book Fair is approaching its closing days, record numbers of authors are counting their lucky stars. Translation rights have changed hands at a brisk pace, and, frankly, for good money. Nobody reveals the true numbers on these foreign rights contracts, but the buzz on the floor is that a good many authors earned six-figure numbers this week. No big names, and no big book titles, but that's what's so nice about it. An unknown author whose book is 'discovered' at the right moment can make it big, arguably more so than in the past because so many more unknown authors now have an opportunity to be read, and that includes authors such as yourself.

As we indicated earlier this week, the e-book phenomenon is decidedly low-key in Frankfurt. To understand this, one must realize that the rest of the world has seen no competition between two giants on the level of a Barnes and Noble and Amazon. That competition, more than anything else, drove the development and release of two highly competent e-readers in the US, the Kindle and the Nook, which, in turn, had an ever larger consumer audience starting to buy e-books as soon as last year's holidays sales season began.

In the absence of this, Europe has not yet warmed to e-books. That will certainly change now that the Kindle is becoming available in different languages, together with a Kindle store of their own, but we won't see the real effects of this until sometime next year. That's why most experts in Frankfurt are holding their breath: everyone is curious to see how fast and how sky-high the e-book will take off on this continent. Most people agree that there's every reason for hopes to soar.

PublishAmerica has had a really good week in Frankfurt, with lots of traffic to our promotion booth, and interest from publishers from a record number of countries. Today was another truly busy day, and as we tallied the countries of origin of the publishers and agencies that came to introduce themselves, we noticed that we had never been contacted by so many different publishers from so many different countries.

We were especially gratified to hear from a major German literary agent. He stopped by and asked for a list of books that he wants to be able to consider, with a right of first refusal. We're informing you about this in a separate message, it's that promising.

The Fair ends on Sunday. You will receive a final update once our delegation has returned and a full "impact assessment" has been made.

In regards to The $19K Dilemma by Keith Easthouse Independent Staff Writer I would like to say the following.

Keith stated "He called his daughter who urged him to keep it." I told my father who is hundreds of miles away; I didn't want to know about it. I also said, "I'm sure you'll do the right thing." That was not mentioned. When you are suffering and sad it is hard to hear about that kind of money. However, I would rather be poor than evil.

I love my parents and have watched them suffer due to lack all my life. The article painted me to be the bad gal. I'm not. Cannabis is legal for some people in certain states. I don't deal drugs. I'm broke. If I were a drug dealer, I wouldn't be broke. I have a family, a life, and a brain. I know Betsy Ross wasn't president. She should have been. There are women older than me who use Cannabis regularly. Gossip is also a sin. The first thing I would do is end prohibition with the legalization of Cannabis for adults. Perhaps then good people would not be treated as criminals for avoiding arthritis or cancer. I have an honest family and we do not deserve slander. Seriously, what would Jesus do?

We received word today that Agathe Von Trapp has died. Ms. Von Trapp was the eldest daughter of the singing Von Trapp family, and known throughout the world as "Liesl" from the movie The Sound of Music, re-aired by ABC this past weekend. She was also one of PublishAmerica's most accomplished writers, having been a PublishAmerica author for five years. She was 97.

PublishAmerica counts almost 50,000 authors. We rarely make public announcements about their private lives, but Agathe always allowed us to make an exception. In part, this was by design. She remained involved with the Von Trapp Family Lodge in Vermont and kept stacks of her autobiography for sale there. Ms. Von Trapp was a keen marketer of "Agathe von Trapp: Memories Before and After The Sound of Music", now out of print at PublishAmerica.

But she was also a woman of kindness who always treated our staff with generosity, and who wrote her memoir with great openness in order to separate fact from fiction. Clear-minded until the end, and always attentive, she took time to sketch a painting of her favorite purple flowers as they grow in the Alp meadows where her family's story began, and sent it as a gift to a PublishAmerica staff member. Agathe von Trapp chose to join PublishAmerica because she wanted to be among authors such as yourself. She will be missed.

Buckeye Bark

1 stick of butter

1 jar of creamy peanut butter

1 tsp. of vanilla

1 lb. of powdered sugar

12 oz. bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 tbs. vegetable shortening

Cream butter, peanut butter and vanilla together in a mixing bowl, adding powdered sugar until mixed thoroughly. Flatten mixture over wax lined baking sheets.

Melt chocolate chips and shortening together in the top of a double boiler over low heat.

Pour chocolate mixture over peanut butter mixture, spread evenly with spatula.

Dust with powdered sugar and place in refrigerator to cool.

Buckeye Bark stores best in covered container in refrigerator.

This is my favorite recipe because it looks like Buckeye tree bark.

It’s the bark you can bite!

Buckeye Bark goes great with milk or coffee!
